Nazım Hikmet'in soyadındaki Ran ne demek, merak konusu oldu. Türk edebiyatının önde gelen isimlerinden Nazım Hikmet Ran, 20 Kasım 1901'de Selanik'te doğdu. Doğum tarihi nüfusa 1902 olarak kaydedilen şairin asıl adı Mehmet Nazım olsa da edebiyat tarihinde Nazım Hikmet adıyla tanındı. Ünlü şair, 'Ran' soyadını ise eşi Piraye Hanım'ın önerisiyle sonradan aldı.
